April Special Sustainability: JUNG with sustainably certified products

Sustainability is a high priority at JUNG. This includes the use of renewable energy, the reduction of waste and emissions and the promotion of fair working conditions. In addition, JUNG has integrated the cradle-to-cradle concept into its product development and aligned its production processes accordingly. This includes the use of harmless materials, the promotion of recycling and the design of products for easier dismantling and reuse. Products are designed in such a way that they can either be biodegraded after use or completely returned to the technical cycle without leaving any waste behind. The cradle-to-cradle principle (C2C) is a concept that was developed by William McDonough and Michael Braungart at the end of the 1990s. It is based on the idea that products go through their life cycle “from cradle to cradle” or “from origin to origin”. As an approach for a consistent circular economy, the concept has gained importance worldwide and serves as a guideline for sustainable design and production in various industries.
The basic idea is to design the manufacture of products in such a way that they neither generate waste nor pollute the environment at the end of their life cycle. The aim is not to produce less harmful products, but to create a benefit. They should therefore be recycled in biological or technical cycles. Overall, this means continuous use and reuse of materials.
The “Cradle to Cradle Certified®” certification program was developed by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute (C2CPII) and aims to label products that meet the strict requirements of the Cradle to Cradle principle. These products must meet certain criteria in order to receive the certificate. Material health, recyclability of materials, renewable energy and climate protection, water consumption and social fairness play a key role. The Cradle to Cradle Certified® label is available in five levels: Basic, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. It shows consumers that a product has been manufactured in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way. JUNG offers a range of products that are certified according to the Cradle to Cradle principle. These include switch ranges, sockets, dimmers and other electrical installations. These products have been specially developed to meet the requirements of the Cradle to Cradle concept by using harmless materials, being easily recyclable and complying with the principles of circular economy and environmental protection.
There are currently around 300 Cradle to Cradle companies worldwide with over 8,000 Cradle to Cradle Certified® products.
NIRO is pleased that JUNG is one of them and, as a company with durable and sustainably produced components, is living up to its responsibility for sustainable business.
