IHK Industry Committee met at NIRO

An important committee of the Dortmund Chamber of Industry and Commerce met at the Port of Dortmund on June 4, 2025: The Industry Committee discussed current topics and gained an insight into the current status of the area on Kanalstrasse, which will also be home to the industrial campus in the future.

NIRO has been located in Dortmund’s port since the beginning of 2024. Numerous NIRO events take place here in shared accommodation with the Digital Workbench Dortmund. The new premises are also used for workshops and seminars for partners.
A lot has happened in Kanalstraße and the Industry Committee of the Dortmund Chamber of Industry and Commerce was our guest at its last meeting.

The Industry Committee also includes a number of managing directors from our member companies. This committee discusses current issues and serves as a forum for direct exchange between decision-makers.
Dr. Ansgar Fendel, Vice President of the Dortmund Chamber of Industry and Commerce and Chairman of the Industry Committee, welcomed the 30 or so participants and opened the meeting.

Our Managing Director Ingrid Lange presented our network and our academy and explained how non-member companies can also use our purchasing pool.
Susanne Hegemann, authorized signatory of TZ Net GmbH, gave an overview of the current status of developments at the Port of Dortmund. Using live drone images, she provided information on projects in Speicherstrasse and the industrial campus in Kanalstrasse. The site of the planned industrial campus covers 5.5 hectares and is already being used for industrial purposes by a number of companies. Another element is the Digital Workbench – a multifunctional location that invites companies and networks to use this space. The entire area aims to bridge the gap between industry and the digital economy.
An open discussion then brought up individual aspects relating to the current precarious economic and geopolitical situation and what this means for our regional industry. Once again, it became clear that cutting red tape and affordable energy are essential. Active exchange with political institutions remains important in order to secure Dortmund as a business location and continue to enable innovation.
