NIRO visits FedEx at Cologne/Bonn Airport

Since July 2025, our member companies have had access via a framework agreement to FedEx, the world’s largest express transportation company, whose shipping services include both domestic and international deliveries and offer a wide range of options for standard and express shipping.
On 30 September 2025, some NIRO members were able to immerse themselves in the world of FedEx at Cologne/Bonn Airport and gained interesting insights into a sophisticated logistical interplay at the central German hub of the world’s largest freight company.

We have had a strong new partner for our purchasing pool for around three months now: FedEx Express Deutschland GmbH. Their new service is designed to make logistics easier, faster and more cost-effective for NIRO members. Regardless of whether parcels are shipped locally or internationally, FedEx offers reliable solutions tailored to all individual business needs with its unparalleled road and air networks. Our members benefit from exclusively negotiated conditions and a comprehensive national and international logistics offering through the new framework agreement.FedEx is an expert in simple, accessible and affordable shipping solutions and offers an extensive portfolio of transportation services to ensure a seamless experience in both the B2B and B2C segments. FedEx specializes in accessible and efficient shipping for B2B and B2C businesses, helping companies optimize their supply chains and improve the customer experience.

To find out how FedEx can support the shipping processes of our member companies, we visited our new partner at Cologne/Bonn Airport on September 30, 2025.
After passing through all the security checks, we experienced the landing of a FedEx Boeing 777 freighter directly on the tarmac and then got to know all the logistical processes in more detail: Unloading, refueling, preparing for the next flight. After just under 90 minutes, the plane took off again for Memphis, Tennessee, FedEx’s main global hub. This was followed by the highlight of the visit for our group. Everyone was allowed to enter the interior of the aircraft, see the cockpit, sit in the pilot’s seat and take a look at the cargo hold. The third part of the tour took us to the warehouse. It is the central location of the highly precise and fast world of FedEx air freight logistics. Perfectly interlinked processes impressively demonstrated how FedEx’s flexible, efficient and intelligent global network can also support shipping processes in member companies.

Thank you very much for the warm welcome from the FedEx team, consisting of Nedzib Causevic, Jennifer Werner and Volker Boes. We are grateful for the many exciting insights: fun facts from the FedEx world and the interesting tour from the tarmac to the aircraft, cockpit and cargo hold, to the most important areas of the logistics hall, a look into the flight plan management and getting to know the sniffer dog Luma and her human partner.

Our personal contact Nedzib Causevic, Senior Account Executive, will be happy to answer any questions you may have about our framework agreement with FedEx.
