Apps play an important role in companies when it comes to internal communication. Digitally supported information, communication and networking are possible via this channel. All of this can contribute to sustainable internal communication. In principle, an app for employees can reduce overall paper consumption in the company, for example by making information such as company guidelines or training documents available digitally. Faster and more direct communication via an app promotes coordinated work, shortens decision-making processes and can minimize misunderstandings. Apps can help to increase employee engagement. They offer various tools for further training and can increase participation in the company’s sustainability-oriented initiatives. Higher motivation and a positive working environment are positive side effects. Zapp AG introduced its Zapp Go 2022 app and has been continuously developing it ever since. The international, multilingual app has a public area and an internal area for Zapp employees. Numerous functions enable communication, networking, exchange and the sharing of information. In summer 2024, a campaign was launched in collaboration with the provider Fitbase to promote cohesion and exercise for a healthier (working) life while leaving a green footprint. The Zappathon called on all employees to take part in the step challenge from mid-June to mid-August 2024. The goal: 1 time around the world with a stopover at all Zapp plants.
The focus was on making a sustainable contribution and simply moving more – all types of sport counted and were partially converted into steps, and it was also possible to connect smartphones and wearables to have steps counted automatically.
In addition, Zapp locations around the world presented themselves to strengthen the sense of community and make integration into the Zapp Group more personal. With each location reached, a donation amount was raised to benefit sustainability. In the coming period, trees will be planted in the Schwerte/Unna region to strengthen regional ties and implement further sustainable measures through support from the app. NIRO is impressed by the lively and varied way in which Zapp uses its Zapp Go app to inform and motivate people, step by step towards greater sustainability.
