At the workshop on February 6, 2025, managers from various functional areas came together in our port area to deal with current issues relating to sustainability. Three interesting inputs provided the basis for the discussion.
Sustainability is and remains a key topic in our network.
This workshop focused on specific laws and regulations that are not always at the forefront of the sustainability debate.
After a brief welcome from Ingrid Lange, the first impulse came from Matthias Meevissen, Head of Association and Cooperation Management at WILO SE. He explained the far-reaching consequences of the Building Energy Act (GEG, §60 a-c, §71) and the Energy Efficiency Act (EnEfG §8&9) for manufacturing companies. Many laws are EU law and cannot be ignored. Overall, we must assume that many requirements will remain in place.
Dr. Anne Rödl, Business Assurance/Business Development Manager SGS INSTITUT FRESENIUS GmbH, provided the second impulse. She discussed how companies move from theory to practice and successfully implement sustainability. Of particular interest was her analysis that our values in terms of sustainability have hardly changed and that sustainable action plays and has always played a key role, especially in traditional family businesses. For companies, it is therefore not just a question of legal obligations and risks, for example with regard to the extension of reporting obligations. Sustainability can also bring competitive advantages by providing access to capital or enhancing the brand image and employer image. Last but not least, sustainable action brings with it economic opportunities and innovative solutions.
The third impulse from Frank Riediger, Key Account Manager WILO SE, went into the technical implementation of the “Efficiency First” claim in detail. He gave concrete examples of how low-investment measures can efficiently contribute to sustainability, for example by replacing pumps, reducing CO2 or lowering energy requirements. Many individual pieces of the puzzle need to be brought together here in order to implement more efficient energy solutions overall. This is where Wilo can support companies and define potential savings with an analysis of existing systems.
The topic of energy efficiency will continue to accompany us in the network.
For all those interested in this topic, we are offering a visit to PHOENIX CONTACT Deutschland GmbH in neighboring Ostwestfalen-Lippe on April 2, 2025. We will visit the company and the All Electric Society Park (AES Park) to learn more about the innovative solutions that PHOENIX CONTACT has found for its sustainable energy management.
