Technical Documentation Working Group: 2nd meeting on the results of the maturity model

A maturity model was developed for technical documentation in order to comprehensively assess the current status of this area in member companies. After the kick-off at the end of August 2025, our working group met again on November 26, 2025 in our port area to discuss the results.

For all those who have dealt with the maturity model, one thing is clear: it cannot be done on the side. The individual assessment in numerous dimensions and sub-dimensions, such as editorial infrastructure, external and internal interfaces or the importance of technical documentation in the organization, is in-depth and requires time and, at best, teamwork.A total of seven member companies worked more intensively with the maturity model and presented their results to the others. It became clear that comparability is only possible to a limited extent due to the different framework conditions and individual requirements. After everyone had been given a brief presentation of the most important results, the participants were divided into small groups. Here, a focus from a single dimension was reflected on and discussed in more detail.

The selected topics on which the groups had exchanged ideas were then presented in the plenary session.
In general, the exchange of experiences was important and inspiring for many. Some had not yet worked with the model and were able to take away valuable tips. A second, optimized version of the maturity model is still being created to take into account suggestions and ideas for improvement from the group. As always, we will provide information on this via our NIRO app.

Our working group will continue, as new potential topics have already been identified: Several participants wanted to work more intensively on target group analysis. The integration of feedback, the anchoring of technical documentation in the company and the definition of meaningful and sustainable key figures for this area were also on the list of upcoming topics.

Please make a note of the next date: We will meet on March 25, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., combined with an invitation from ABP to get to know our neighbor’s production in a short tour.

As always, the invitation will be sent out promptly via our NIRO app.
