“Innovation in Motion” describes very well what our new member, limoss GmbH & Co. KG, deals with on a daily basis. The success of this international supplier lies in the combination of mechanics, electronics and drive technology.
The company is globally networked and at the same time regionally connected – with its roots in Wetter an der Ruhr and its international presence. limoss shapes drive and comfort solutions for the furniture and medical industries with its solutions and products.
Since it was founded in 2009, our new member company has developed from a regional specialist into a leading international provider. Around 500 employees currently work for limoss worldwide – at locations in Germany, the USA, Romania, China and Hong Kong. The company thus stands for German engineering skills, global presence and a high level of innovation.
limoss has undergone a remarkable development over the past 17 years: from a small supplier of linear actuators to a globally active company that is valued as a partner for manufacturers of seating furniture, beds and care accessories and for numerous other applications.

5 questions for Mr. Michael Kochem, Managing Director limoss Group
NIRO: Mr. Kochem, welcome as a new member of the Industrie RuhrOst network!
Your company is now joining our network. What convinced you to become a member of NIRO?
Michael Kochem: We were particularly impressed by the regional networking concept. It is important for us to engage in a direct, practical exchange with other industrial companies from the region, to learn from each other and to tackle common issues in dialog rather than in isolation. At the same time, we see NIRO as a good platform for gaining new impetus, establishing solid contacts and actively shaping cooperation within industry in the eastern Ruhr region.
NIRO: Which topics are particularly topical in your company? Which issues would you like to find out more about in our network?
Michael Kochem: We are currently focusing in particular on topics such as procurement and supply chains, cost and price pressure as well as more sustainable solutions in packaging and the use of materials. We are also interested in topics such as securing skilled workers, digitalization, process optimization and the practical exchange of information on current market and location developments. Above all, we want to learn from the experiences of other companies in the network and get to know specific solutions.
NIRO: As a regional network, NIRO promotes good relationships between its members. Could your company’s products or services also be of interest to other members?
Michael Kochem: This is our assumption. limoss stands for intelligent drive and motion solutions that can be used in a wide range of applications. In addition to our classic systems for the furniture and medical industries, applications in other areas are also conceivable, wherever ergonomic, comfortable and reliable adjustment solutions are required. In addition, as a company with an international focus, we are also an interesting partner in matters relating to procurement, supply chains, product development and market cultivation.
NIRO: What challenges are you currently facing? What issues could the network help you with?
Michael Kochem: Like many industrial companies, we are also faced with the task of developing profitability, innovation and sustainability at the same time. We currently see challenges in volatile procurement markets, increasing demands for efficiency and transparency and competition for skilled workers, among other things. For us, a network is particularly helpful where experience is shared, best practices are made visible and contacts are made. For us, the honest exchange on an equal footing about solutions that work in practice is particularly valuable.
NIRO: We offer our members different spaces: “Sharing knowledge”, “Working together” and “Shopping together”. In which space are we most likely to meet you?
Michael Kochem: Most likely in the “sharing knowledge” area, because we consider the open exchange with other companies to be particularly valuable. At the same time, “Working together” is also very exciting for us if it results in concrete joint projects, synergies or collaborations. Basically, we find the combination of exchanging experiences and practical collaboration particularly interesting.
